Additional Support Needs Mediation
Govan Law Centre’s Education Law Unit has developed an independent additional support needs mediation service specifically designed for the Scottish education system. This is now known as Respect Mediation. We are members of the Scottish Mediation Network.Mediation is a method of conflict resolution that aims to assist parents, pupils and education authorities who are in disagreement to reach a mutually acceptable solution, with the help of a neutral independent third party – the mediator. For more details see our mediation information page, or send an e-mail to mediation@edlaw.org.uk.
Our additional support needs mediation service operates across Scotland, and a number of education authorities have a contract with us to provide them with mediation services, training and advice. These currently include Dumfries & Galloway, North Ayrshire, East Ayrshire, Midlothian, East Lothian and Orkney. Training on the mediation process is also available for parent groups and voluntary organisations. For more information, please contact us on mediation@edlaw.org.uk.
